Over 1,000 students selected for 2025 Solomon Islands Government scholarships across various categories.
A total of 1,038 candidates have been selected for the 2025 Solomon Islands Government (SIG) scholarships after reviewing 4,987 online applications. Of these, 3,730 applicants came from the preservice category, and 1,257 applicants were in the in-service category. The selection process was based on criteria such as academic performance, leadership, community involvement, industry training needs, and financial circumstances.
Tozen Leokana, the Minister of Education, endorsed the list of successful scholarship recipients on Monday, January 13, 2025. This followed the completion of the selection process by the Scholarship Selection Committee, chaired by Permanent Secretary Dr. Franco Rodie.
Dr. John Iromea, Director of the National Scholarship Division, expressed his pleasure with the Minister’s approval. He stated that the division would soon notify the successful candidates. “I am pleased to inform you that the 2025 SIG scholarships recipients have been approved by the Hon. Minister of Education for implementation,” Dr. Iromea said.
Scholarships cover a wide range of categories, including certificate, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs for both preservice and in-service applicants. These include school-based, constituency, preservice skills/TVET scholarships, and more.
Acknowledging the support of the selection committees and government agencies involved in the process, Dr. Iromea emphasized the government’s continued commitment to human resource development. “These scholarships offer invaluable opportunities for students to advance their education and contribute to our nation’s socio-economic progress,” he added.
The Constituency scholarship listings are expected to be released next week.
