FIFA President, is set to arrive in Honiara today after spending the night in Papua New Guinea.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is set to spend a day in Honiara, marking the first-ever visit by a FIFA president to the Solomon Islands. President Infantino’s visit comes after a night spent in Papua New Guinea and is part of his tour of the Pacific region.
The Solomon Islands, renowned for their fervent passion for soccer, are eagerly awaiting the FIFA president’s arrival. This small Pacific nation has a storied history of producing exceptional football talents and nurturing a soccer culture that thrives at both grassroots and professional levels.
As part of the day’s events, several of the Solomon Islands’ football legends and veterans are expected to witness a historic friendly match between the FIFA President’s 11 and the SIFF (Solomon Islands Football Federation) President’s 11. The exhibition match is scheduled for the late afternoon.
Highlighting the significance of the visit, SIFF President Donald Marahare stated, “This will be a historic visit to the country and particularly to football. It will be an honor to host the President and have him witness firsthand the impact football has in the country.”
President Infantino is also expected to attend the Solomon Power Iumi U-14 Championship at DC Park. The championship showcases the raw talent and potential of young soccer players in the country.
