Ysabel (Garanga) Senior Secondary School Unveils New Dining Hall and Kitchen, Marking a Milestone in Educational Infrastructure Development
Ysabel (Garanga) Senior Secondary School in Ghoveo Community, Isabel Province, celebrated the inauguration of its new dining hall and kitchen on 8 March 2024. This infrastructure project, funded by the Australian and New Zealand Governments in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) through the Education Sector Support Program, marks a significant development for the school.
Constructed by Solomon Sheet Steel Company Limited at a cost of SBD6.3 million, the new dining hall and kitchen aim to enhance the school’s facilities for both students and staff. Providing a dedicated cooking space for school staff and a communal area for students to enjoy meals, the project is expected to foster a conducive learning environment.
Principal of Ysabel (Garanga) Secondary School, Mrs. Canon Christina Vunagi, expressed gratitude for the new infrastructure, emphasizing its potential benefits for the school and the wider community. She noted the well-designed kitchen area, highlighting its importance in ensuring cleanliness, safety, and hygiene standards for food preparation.
The newly inaugurated dining hall and kitchen are set to serve the 66 students (32 girls, 34 boys) and eight teachers (three females and five males) of Ysabel (Garanga) Senior Secondary School.
A special handover ceremony marked the successful completion of the project, with attendees including the Caretaker Minister of Education, Lanelle Tanangada MP; Counsellor for Human Development at the Australian High Commission, Tristan Armstrong; and Second Secretary of the New Zealand High Commission, Daniel Thompson, alongside members of the school community.
