Education Sector Support Program Drives Progress Towards National Education Goals
Siota Provincial Secondary School in Central Province recently celebrated the inauguration of a new boys’ dormitory and ablution block. This infrastructure project was made possible through funding from the Australian and New Zealand governments, in collaboration with the Solomon Islands Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, as part of the Education Sector Support Program (ESSP). The initiative aims to enhance access to quality education throughout the country.
The newly constructed facilities offer a secure and hygienic environment for 118 male students enrolled in Form 7 to Form 11.
A special handover event held on 20 March 2024 was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), the Central Islands Provincial Government, and the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions.
The ESSP serves as the guiding framework for the combined investment from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
This investment is aimed at supporting the Solomon Islands Government in implementing its Education Strategic Framework (ESF) 2016-2030 and the National Education Action Plan.
Siota Provincial School holds the distinction of being the oldest school in the Solomon Islands, with roots dating back to the British Colonial Era.
