Honiara Prepares as West, East and Central Constituencies Await Commencement of Counting
Following the joint elections held throughout the country yesterday, counting is anticipated to commence shortly. In Honiara, counting for West, East and Central Honiara, including the city council wards, has yet to begin. Currently, Presiding Officers from various polling stations are engaged in transferring ballot boxes under their care to the Returning Officers for the verification before the formal counting process.
Across the nation, ballot boxes are being transported from constituencies and wards to provincial centers where counting will be conducted. In Temotu, the RSIPF marine division is assisting in the transportation of ballot boxes by Patrol Boat to Lata, the provincial center.
Counting for Western and Choiseul provinces for the national parliament is expected to be announced first, as voters only cast their votes for their respective candidates for the national parliament. East Choiseul, where Caretaker Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare is a candidate, is among the first constituencies expected to be announced soon, as well as North New Georgia, where only two candidates are vying for the seat in the National Parliament.
