First female to hold the position while former Chairman, MP for West Honiara re-appointed as Caucus Chairman
Member of Parliament for the Maringe Kokota constituency, Cathy Nori, has been appointed Deputy Chairlady of the Government Caucus. Nori’s appointment marks a historic first for the government, as she is the first female to hold this position.
Meanwhile Member of Parliament for West Honiara, Namson Tran, has been re-appointed as Caucus Chairman.
The caucus plays a crucial role in maintaining government stability and ensuring effective governance. Comprising members of parliament (MPs) from the ruling party or coalition, its primary function is to facilitate coordination and unity among these members.
The caucus meets regularly to discuss and deliberate on important policy issues, legislative agendas and government programs. These meetings help to align the members on key decisions and strategies, promoting a cohesive approach to governance. Additionally, the caucus serves as a platform for MPs to voice their opinions, propose initiatives and seek advice from their colleagues.
Furthermore, the caucus plays a pivotal role in the implementation, evaluation and monitoring of government policies. By working closely with various government ministries and agencies, the caucus helps ensure that the executive branch operates smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the overall political stability of the country.
Both the newly appointed Deputy Chairlady, Cathy Nori and the re-appointed Caucus Chairman, Namson Tran, contested as Independent Members in the joint elections on 17th April 2024.
