Solomon Airlines Steps in to Ensure Continued Connectivity Following Air Vanuatu’s Liquidation
Solomon Airlines has officially commenced direct flights between Port Vila, Vanuatu and Auckland, New Zealand, utilizing its own aircraft to ensure continued air services linking the two countries. This move comes in response to Air Vanuatu’s recent involuntary liquidation, which left a gap in flight availability for seasonal workers and tourists.
The national carrier of the Solomon Islands, in collaboration with the Vanuatu government, has been working closely with New Zealand authorities to establish these interim flights. The effort included responding to charter requests to facilitate the movement of stranded tourists and seasonal workers between Port Vila and Auckland.
Solomon Airlines had previously operated on behalf of Air Vanuatu on this route as part of a broader Pacific partnership. This partnership involved codeshare arrangements that supplemented Air Vanuatu’s services.
Celebrating its 62nd anniversary this year, Solomon Airlines stands as one of the oldest airlines in the Pacific region. The airline says the importance of efficient and direct air services linking the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Zealand remains a top priority for the carrier.
Solomon Airlines continues is committed to working with the Vanuatu government and current administrators to aid in the resumption of Air Vanuatu’s operations. The airline looks forward to maintaining and strengthening its cooperative relationship with Air Vanuatu.
