The Anglican Church of Melanesia provides vital relief supplies to earthquake-affected communities in Vanuatu, including Port Vila.
The Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) has delivered vital relief supplies to communities affected by the recent 7.3 magnitude earthquake near Port Vila. The supplies were handed over on January 3 at the Vanuatu Police Maritime Wharf, RVS Mala Base.
The delivery was led by the Right Rev. James Tama, Bishop of the Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia, along with representatives from ACoM’s offices in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The donations included rice, water, coconuts, and other essentials transported via the MV Southern Cross.
ACoM also donated food items to the Port Vila Central Hospital. The items were presented to hospital staff, who expressed gratitude for the support. Speaking at the handover, Bishop Tama acknowledged the hospital staff’s dedication and expressed hope that the donations would provide assistance to those in need.
Additionally, ACoM delivered food supplies to the Melanesian Brotherhood household in Teuma, where damage to the community’s dining hall was assessed. Further support was extended to families of clergymen at Tagabe Parish.
ACoM’s relief efforts follow a call for support that gathered contributions from communities in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, including individuals, businesses, and organizations.
