Prospective Athletes Urged to Bring Towels and Water Bottles for a Chance to Shine
In preparation for the upcoming Oceania Championships in the Cook Islands, the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) is initiating open trials for male and female beach volleyball athletes, aged both above and below 19 years. The trials will start on Friday 12 January 2024.
This move follows a request from Morris Maitaki, President of the Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation (SIVF). Recognizing the crucial role of supporting the national volleyball team’s pursuit of excellence, SINIS has enthusiastically committed to enhancing their preparation for the imminent championships.
Building on the triumph of Beach Volleyball at the recent XVII Pacific Games, Aaron Alsop, Executive Director of SINIS, expressed his anticipation for the trials, underscoring the chance to identify and nurture locally-grown beach volleyball talent.
“Being one of the top performing team sports in the country, there is a great opportunity to focus on development of youth players but also build more depth in the squad as we prepare for the Pacific Mini Games in 2025 and Pacific Games in 2027,” said Alsop.
“Beyond the 2023 XVII Pacific Games, SINIS has created a legacy for sports such as Beach Volleyball by having a designated facility with programs in place that can ensure sustainable success into the future. SINIS appreciates the confidence and trust placed in us through our partnership with SIVF and President Morris to collaborate on this program.”
The trials are set for January Friday 12, Tuesday 16, and Thursday 18 at the SINIS Beach Complex, with sessions scheduled from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Prospective athletes are encouraged to bring their own towels and water bottles, while water and snacks will be provided on-site.
Registration will be available on the day of the trials.
