Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, Nestor Giro has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Fisheries Cooperation with the Chairman of the China National Fisheries Corporation. While in Beijing, Minister Giro took the opportunity to progress the Fisheries Cooperation with the People’s Republic of China. The MOU signed will allow CNFC to invest in Solomon Islands in areas of mutual interest. According to Minister Giro, the MOU is to strengthen the SI-PRC Fisheries Cooperation as well as to promote the implementation of tangible entrepreneurial developments in Solomon Islands. On 16 th May Minister Giro visited the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in Beijing and held talks with Vice Minister Ma Youxiang. Giro said Solomon Islands is ready to carry out more cooperation with China to promote the development of the fishery industry and improve people’s living standards. CNFC International Corp. is the largest multi-national fisheries enterprise of China. It has more than 220 of bottom trawlers, long-liners, merchant carriers and bunker service vessels operating mainly in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Mediterranean sea. It also dedicates to purchases and sales of fishing materials all over the world and can provide any kind of labour service relating to the fishing sector.
