Deputy PM Richard Marles visits Solomon Islands to strengthen partnerships and support the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Richard Marles, is set to travel to the Solomon Islands on Saturday for a series of high-level discussions.
During his visit to Honiara, Marles will meet with Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and other government ministers. The trip follows the announcement in December by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele regarding Australia’s support to enhance the size and capabilities of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force. This collaboration underscores Australia’s commitment as the Solomon Islands’ preferred security partner.
The Deputy Prime Minister plans to discuss a shared vision for a strengthened Australia-Solomon Islands partnership, emphasizing mutual trust, respect, and open dialogue. This will be Marles’ third visit to the Solomon Islands in his capacity as Deputy Prime Minister.
Marles expressed his optimism about the upcoming meetings, saying, “I look forward to meeting with Prime Minister Manele again in Honiara to build on discussions about the strong and enduring partnership between our two nations.”
He also reiterated Australia’s dedication to supporting the Solomon Islands’ ambitions, stating, “Australia is a steadfast security partner for Solomon Islands and is committed to supporting their ambition to grow the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.”
This visit is expected to further cement ties between the two nations, strengthening their cooperative efforts in security and development.
