Under a scorching sun, they managed to secure a 2-0 win over the Franco Nee and Stanley Waita development coached side.
With two wins under their belt, the national team would take on Papua New Guinea who had seemed to struggle in their opening 1-0 win over the national development side and their 1-1 draw with Fiji at the National Sports Stadium.
The David Muta PNG coached side against the senior national men’s team picked up a surprise 3-2 victory thanks to a free kick goal by team captain Alex Komolong late into extra time.
The win sees PNG leading the race for the title with 7 points, Solomon Islands in second with 6 points, Fiji in third with five points, Vanuatu in fourth with 4 points while the national development side finishes the competition bottom of the table without a point, after their 3-0 defeat to Fiji in their final game on Wednesday.
Final matches of the 2024 MSG PMs Cup in Honiara meanwhile will see Vanuatu taking on Papua New Guinea at 4pm while Fiji is up against the senior men’s national team 6pm this Saturday at the National Sports Stadium.
A win or draw for Papua New Guinea against Vanuatu tomorrow will guarantee them the title while Solomon Islands hopes to defend the title rests on a win against Fiji tomorrow and a victory by Vanuatu over PNG.
For Fiji, a win over Solomon Islands and a defeat for PNG tomorrow would see them crowned champions.
