North Guadalcanal MP Dr. Paulson Bosawai highlights development concerns challenges in his Constituency.
Dr. Paulson Bosawai, the Member of Parliament for North Guadalcanal, has raised concerns about the ongoing development challenges in his constituency, despite its proximity to Honiara. During sine die, he highlighted the lack of a sustainable water supply for his constituency, despite its proximity to Honiara. He also pointed to the outdated Road Act and Lands and Titles Act, which continue to hinder progress in the constituency.
Dr. Bosawai noted that North Guadalcanal, although home to significant economic activities, still lacks basic infrastructure and services since 1978. He hopes his position within the current government will help him drive necessary reforms. His goal is to foster an environment that supports long-term development for future generations.
In the past seven months, Dr. Bosawai has focused his office’s efforts on improving education and infrastructure. He proudly announced that roads in North Guadalcanal are being gravelled, benefiting women with improved access to markets. He expressed hope for further investments in income-generating activities in 2025.
To promote transparency, Dr. Bosawai shared the financial allocations for his constituency. The total allocation was 3.8 million SBD, of which 1.2 million SBD has been received. Major expenditures include 200,000 SBD for road improvements in Vutu, 49,000 SBD to establish the constituency office, and 36,000 SBD for death assistance. Additionally, 150,000 SBD went toward peacemaking efforts, and over 600,000 SBD is earmarked for investments in the productive sector.
Dr. Bosawai also reported that his office received 1 million SBD in non-cash grants from the Rural Sector Development Program (RSDP). These funds will help maintain roads in Suaghi, Ghorabau, Roroni, and Koli. Moreover, 100,000 SBD supported water supply improvements for the Momolu community, which has struggled with water access due to upstream alluvial mining that has destroyed their water source from the Metapono River.
In addition to these efforts, Dr. Bosawai shared that 400,000 SBD was spent on purchasing a Hilux vehicle for the constituency office. The vehicle will improve communication and support services for the constituency. Continued roadworks, including from Foxwood to Suaghi, remain a priority for his office.
Dr. Bosawai concluded by calling on his constituents to maintain peace and unity. He stressed that collaboration among all community members and stakeholders is essential to achieving the constituency’s development goals. He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the living standards and overcoming development challenges in North Guadalcanal.
