Radio is the primary source of news and information for the vast majority of the Solomon Islands. The importance of high quality and accurate content distributed by the medium was highlighted during the challenges faced by the country in late 2021 (riots) and through the first quarter of 2022 (COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical events). The Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) reported to PACMAS a need for further training and better practice when it comes to radio programming across the Solomon Islands. The activity aims to support Solomon Island radio professionals to: – Improve the quality of radio reporting – Develop better understanding of radio content production and planning processes – Strengthen skills in radio announcements and story presentations Resource personnel in the workshop includes acclaimed broadcasters, John Adifaka Jnr and David Palapu, including Evan Wasuka from ABC and Fred Hooper from ABCID. The workshop is facilitated by Elizabeth Sade of SIBC and MASI President, Georgina Kekea.
