Discussions with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang focus on bilateral cooperation and mutual development initiatives
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele continues his official visit to China, currently in Beijing after his initial stop in Fujian Province. During his ongoing visit, Manele met with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation. President Xi reaffirmed China’s support for the Solomon Islands’ development path and emphasized areas of collaboration such as infrastructure, healthcare, and sustainable development, aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative.
President Xi highlighted China’s commitment to peaceful cooperation with Pacific Island nations, including the Solomon Islands, under the framework of South-South cooperation. He reiterated China’s readiness to assist in multilateral forums and support mutual interests.
Prime Minister Manele, acknowledging China’s achievements and initiatives, reiterated the Solomon Islands’ adherence to the one-China principle and support for China’s reunification efforts. Manele praised China’s global initiatives promoting peace and development, particularly beneficial for smaller nations like the Solomon Islands.
During his visit, Manele also held discussions with Premier Li Qiang, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, and digital economy sectors. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between their countries.
