The body of late Sir John Ini Lapli lies in state at National Parliament, with a state funeral later today at the St. Barnabas Cathedral.
The body of the late Fr. Sir John Ini Lapli, GCMG, is lying in state at the National Parliament in Honiara today, 23rd January 2025. Sir Ini Lapli, the fourth Governor-General of Solomon Islands, passed away on Saturday, 18th January, after a long illness.
The official program began at 8:00 AM, with public viewing of the body taking place in the Parliament Chambers. The viewing is open until 1:00 PM, with a set schedule for dignitaries and officials to pay their respects. This includes visits from His Excellency the Governor-General, Rev. David Tiva Kapu, the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament, the Speaker of Parliament and various government leaders.
The public viewing period will continue until 1:40 PM, offering citizens the chance to pay their respects.
At 2:45 PM, the casket will be transported to St. Barnabas Cathedral for the state funeral service, which will begin at 3:00 PM.
