His Excellency Barrett Salato joins other diplomats at the 14th NPC session to gain insight into China’s economic strategies
Solomon Islands Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Barrett Salato, recently participated in the second session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the National People’s Congress (NPC) in Beijing.
This customary engagement allowed Ambassador Salato, along with other foreign envoys, to gain insights into China’s economy over the past year and its development targets for the upcoming year.
China has set an ambitious growth target of around 5 percent economic growth this year and reaffirmed its commitment to high-quality development, including advancements in technology and green and sustainable practices.
Ambassador Salato expressed Solomon Islands’ interest in learning from China’s experiences and engaging in bilateral cooperation for sustainable economic development.
Salato will also attend the closing ceremony of the Congress on Monday, 11 March 2024.
The National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China serves as the highest organ of state power in the country. Its permanent body is the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. Deputies to the NPC are elected from provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government, and special administrative regions, as well as from the armed forces.
