Advanced operational command training boosts Solomon Islands’ border enforcement capabilities with Australian Border Force support.
Operational leaders from the Customs and Immigration Divisions in the Solomon Islands have completed advanced operational command training aimed at enhancing border enforcement capabilities. The training, part of an ongoing capacity-building program provided by the Australian Border Force (ABF), equips officers with the skills to conduct operations in both aviation and maritime environments.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Rod Hilton, noted that the training was requested by the Solomon Islands border agencies to secure the nation’s borders, economy, and community. He emphasized the role of collaboration between border enforcement agencies in sharing resources and improving effectiveness in combating border threats.
ABF Customs Comptroller Peter Hughes acknowledged the performance of the senior leaders during the course and expressed anticipation that the new skills would be applied in daily operational activities to protect the community and economy.
Acting Director of Immigration Chris Akosawa highlighted the importance of strong operational planning in securing the borders and thanked the ABF for their continued support in delivering the training.
