Finance Minister Manasseh Sogavare Prioritizes Allowances for USP Students Amidst Funding Delays.
Finance Minister Manasseh Sogavare has told Members of Parliament that the government will prioritize allowances for students at the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Fiji this week. In Parliament on Monday, Sogavare revealed that government-sponsored students at the university are also in ‘trouble’ regarding their allowances.
He stated that it is the Finance Ministry’s priority to ensure that these students receive their allowances this week. Sogavare emphasized the importance of supporting students studying abroad, noting that those in foreign countries require immediate assistance when it comes to prioritizing spending.
Sogavare assured the Members of Parliament that all CDF payments will be processed and completed by December 31, 2024. He reiterated that the needs of students abroad are more pressing than those of individuals and MPs residing in the country.
He also said that the frustration felt by MPs regarding the delays in CDF payments is shared by all members.
