Seven WASH projects in Temotu Province improve water and sanitation facilities at schools and health centers, benefiting 500+ people.
Seven water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects have been completed in Temotu Province, providing improved water supply and sanitation facilities to schools and health centers.
The projects included installing 5,000L and 10,000L water tanks at Venga, Maina, Fenualoa, and Gawa schools, upgrading sanitation facilities at Mamineo School, and establishing reliable water supply systems at Nemba/Manoputi and Taipe health centers.
The initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented under the Provincial Governance and Service Delivery Project by the Temotu Provincial Government (TPG) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), benefits over 500 individuals. These improvements are expected to enhance hygiene and access to clean water, particularly in remote areas.
Despite the progress, the projects faced logistical challenges, including irregular shipping schedules and tight timelines. Officials acknowledged that the six-week implementation period was insufficient given the province’s geographic remoteness. Improved planning and coordination with shipping providers are expected to address these issues in future initiatives.
Building on these achievements, TPG and its partners plan to implement additional WASH projects in 2025, targeting more schools and health centers. The next phase will aim to address gaps in service delivery and enhance access to essential infrastructure across the province.
