Solomon Airlines has announced temporary suspension for Choiseul Bay airport following upgrade work.
Solomon Airlines has announced the temporary suspension of flights to and from Choiseul Bay, with effect from August 28th until October 22nd. This suspension is in response to the ongoing upgrade work taking place at Choiseul Bay airfield.
Passengers who have bookings for Solomon Airlines’ Choiseul Bay flights on Saturday, August 5th, are advised that these flights will be rescheduled to Sunday, August 6th, to accommodate necessary runway surface works.
Commencing at the end of August, the Choiseul Bay airfield will undergo a comprehensive 6 to 8-week closure. This closure is essential to facilitate the reconstruction and resurfacing of the entire runway. During this period, all aircraft operations at Choiseul Bay will be temporarily halted, allowing construction contractors full access to complete these vital upgrades.
The Airline is advising passengers with existing bookings that they have the option to reroute their flights between Honiara and either Balalae Airport or Nusa Tupe Airport at Gizo. Solomon Airlines says passengers are responsible for arranging their own sea transportation between Balalae or Gizo and Choiseul Bay. Alternatively, passengers can choose to delay their travel plans to a later date.
The airfield upgrade initiative is part of the larger Solomon Islands Provincial Airfields Upgrade Project which aims to bring significant infrastructure enhancements to both Choiseul Bay and Seghe.
