Dirk Wagener reaffirms UN support for climate and development goals in courtesy visit with PM Manele.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator for Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, Dirk Wagener, recently paid a courtesy visit to Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele.
During the meeting, Wagener expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Manele’s leadership and ongoing collaboration with the United Nations and its agencies in Solomon Islands. He reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting the country, particularly through enhanced local presence and strategic initiatives.
Wagener confirmed the UN’s dedication to assisting Solomon Islands in achieving its Climate Change-related goals outlined in its National Development Strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Prime Minister Manele, in turn, acknowledged the UN’s support for the government’s efforts on climate change and praised its advocacy on the issue. He emphasized the value of Solomon Islands’ partnership with the UN and encouraged the organization to consider establishing a permanent office in the country.
The Prime Minister also noted that Solomon Islands is looking forward to further collaboration with the UN as it prepares to host several regional and international meetings in 2025.
