New ranking solidifies USP’s status as a leading institution for higher education in the Pacific.
The University of the South Pacific (USP) has advanced 200 places in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, now placing it in the 801–1000 range. This change underscores USP’s position as a significant institution for higher education in the region.
Out of more than 20,000 universities listed in the International Handbook of Universities, only about 8% are included in THE rankings, highlighting USP’s recognition among this group.
The 2025 rankings assessed 2,092 institutions from 115 countries based on various performance indicators, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia stated that the increase in rankings reflects USP’s efforts to deliver quality education and research. He said, “This is a significant achievement for our regional university and it is a testament of the hard work and determination of all our staff to deliver quality, world-ranked education –our region deserves nothing less.
Improving our ranking by 200 places is no easy feat as even more universities participate every year in this highly competitive process. Our staff, students, alumni, member governments and stakeholders should all be immensely proud of the strides we are making to achieve this global endorsement of our quality and level of excellence.”
