Students and Workers Return to Honiara After Exercising Voting Rights in Joint Elections, as CEO Declares William Bradford Marau Winner

The first group of voters who traveled to Ulawa in the Makira Ulawa constituency to cast their votes on Wedesday’s Joint Elections has returned to Honiara on the LC. Lokoiola.
The returnees consisted mainly of students and employees who journeyed to cast their votes in this year’s Joint elections.
In the days leading up to polling day, a total of five ships ferried voters to Ulawa Island, originating from as far as Noro in the Western Province, as well as those residing in and around Honiara, enabling them to exercise their voting rights in the Joint Elections.
Another group of voters is anticipated to make their return trip today on the MV Airi, docked at Su’u Moli Wharf for its voyage back to Honiara from Ulawa Island. More than one thousand voters, out of the 4,564 registered for the Ulawa Ugi constituency in this year’s Joint elections, made the journey to Ulawa Ugi constituency for the elections.
Chief Electoral Officer, Jasper Anisi has since declared the winning candidate for Ulawa/Ugi, William Bradford Marau and MPA Elect for West Ulawa and North Ulawa wards.

William Bradford Marau: 1162 votes (31.20%)
Steven Maesiola: 939 votes (25.21%)
George Titiulu: 687 votes (18.45%)
George Takeli: 429 votes (11.52%)
Davis Maemae: 266 votes (7.14%)
Rata Morrison: 93 votes (2.50%)
Raphael Oli: 87 votes (2.34%)
Malcolm Sitana: 32 votes (0.86%)
Philip Matou: 25 votes (0.67%)
Rejected Votes: 6
Total Votes Cast: 3726
Total Registered Voters: 4564
