Turbidity Concerns Lead to Temporary Suspension of Water Supply from Kongulai and Kombito
In response to elevated turbidity resulting from heavy rains at the water sources, the Solomon Islands Water Authority (SIWA) has taken the precautionary measure to temporarily close the water supply from Kongulai and Kombito until further notice.
Turbidity, a measure of water cloudiness caused by particles such as silt, mud, and algae, has increased due to the ongoing heavy rainfall in the Kongulai and Kombito areas. This natural occurrence necessitates a suspension of the water supply to prevent potential health risks associated with unsafe drinking water.
Apart from health concerns, high turbidity can lead to the clogging of pipes and customers’ facilities, further necessitating the temporary closure. The impact of this suspension extends to water production systems at various locations, including White River, Tasahe, Titinge, Skyline, West Kola Ridge, East Kola Ridge, Borderline, Kombito, and Panatina. As a result, residents in West Honiara, Central Honiara, and East Honiara are likely to experience low water pressure or no water availability during this period.
A current Heavy Rain Warning is in effect for most provinces in the country.
